What you get back
Every report has the same six parts:
- An estimated grade and score: A, B, C+, C, D or E, and a score out of 500.
- A mark for each of the six criteria: Purpose (0–3), and Content, Conciseness & Clarity, Genre & Style, Organisation & Layout and Language (each 0–7). Each comes with a one-line verdict quoting your own words.
- A case-notes coverage check: the relevant notes your letter conveys, the ones the reader needed but didn't get, and the details you included that this reader doesn't need.
- Corrections marked on your letter. Usually 12–25 per letter. Each one shows the original phrase, the corrected version, the rule (for example note form, irrelevant detail or missing article) and which criterion it costs.
- A projected grade: what the same letter would earn with those corrections applied.
- A Grade A model letter for the same case notes, so you can compare selection and structure as well as sentences.
Three ways to check a letter
| You have… | Use | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| A letter typed somewhere else | Check your own letter | Paste your letter, then the case notes and writing task |
| A handwritten letter | Check your own letter | Upload a photo; it is transcribed exactly as written, then graded |
| Nothing yet | Practice cases | Pick a Nursing case and write against the real timing: 5 minutes' reading, then 40 minutes' writing |
How the marking works
The grader is told to mark as an OET Writing assessor would, against the six published criteria, with the case notes in front of it. It must quote the exact words it is correcting; medEmu then finds each quote in your letter and throws away any correction that doesn't match something you wrote, so every mark sits on a phrase you actually wrote. The six marks are added up (out of 38) and converted to an estimated score and grade by a simple, published formula — the model never picks the grade directly.
How accurate is it?
The grade is an estimate for practice, not an official result. OET does not publish how criterion marks convert to its 0–500 score, and AI graders differ from assessors and from themselves when re-run. We plan to measure the difference and publish the results, including where medEmu does worse.
Who it's for
- Nurses who want to know which sentences and which case notes are costing them a grade, not just a number.
- OET teachers who want first-pass marking for a class. A classroom shows every student's letters and grades in one dashboard.
